It is commonly recommended that Diabetics visit the Podiatrist every 1-2 months for footcare and examination since they should not cut their own nails . Diabetic shoe and custom insert Dr. Segel provides the state of the art TOG Gait Scan to measure foot pressures, assess walking, demonstrate areas of concern for the Diabetic and a 3D color scanner for foot architecture transmision.
For active Diabetics who visit their primary care doctor as advised, Medicare will pay for 1 pair of approved shoes and 3 pairs of appropriate inserts each year. Note that Medicare pays 80% and your medigap insurance will likely pay the rest. Dr. Segel is an approved Medicare provider who can prescribe and dispense Medicare approved Diabetic shoes. The staff is well trained, experienced and available to help you with the process. We believe that it is essential to educate our Diabetic patients, independent of insurance, about appropriate shoes and encourage them to obtain proper footwear at most times. For patient conveniece, we carry a selection of well chosen diabetic shoes that can be ordered as needed. We also offer customized shoes when appropriate.
